My Recommendations

 

Why do I recommend these books?  Because these are the ones I own and I'm like everyone else -- I really like whatever it is I have!!  Seriously, these books were recommended to me by amateur and professional astronomers as necessary for a basic hobby astronomy library.  You can find these books on amazon.com and may be able to find them used on eBay.

• Skywatching (a Nature Company guide), by David Levy. I recommend you start with this one.
• Nightwatch:   A Practical Guide to Viewing the Universe, by Terence Dickinson.
• Turn Left At Orion:  A Hundred Night Objects to See in a Small Telescope and How to Find Them, by Guy Consolmagno and Dan M. Davis.
• The Backyard Astronomer's Guide, by Terence Dickinson and Alan Dyer.
• Sky Atlas 2000.0, by Will Trion.
