Welcome!! Thanks for visiting our family web site. The Table of Contents is found on the left side of each page. PLEASE READ THIS. On some pages of this website, if you click on a link, you will get a "404 Broken Link" or a "This page does not exist" error -- here is an explanation for that. This website was made using the old Microsoft Front Page website editor, which was discontinued in 2003. Front Page required that each web host install "Front Page Extensions" on their site. When FP was discontinued, all web hosting services eventually removed the FP extensions from their servers. As a result, some of the pages on this website are not identical -- vestiges of the original site include navigation bars at top, bottom, and side of some pages and the bars are not all identical. Some pages do not have the same tan background as this page. I worked for several weeks in 2021 trying to make each page identical and finally gave up. Microsoft Front Page was an excellent program that made it possible for novices (me) to make fairly complicated websites that work well and looked good. I guess that did not fit with the web hosting industry who wants to force users to pay their exorbitant fees to have one of their specialists do for you what you could do for yourself. Fortunately I kept my original Front Page disk and I install the application on any computer I own. From time to time, I open Front Page, check for broken links, and do my best to repair the errors on this site. Thanks for visiting and thanks for you patience. (Joe, May 2025)
We add new information to this website from time to time, not on any regular schedule Change catches up with us all. In Summer 2025, we realized that in our early 80's, we needed to move from rural Northumberland County VA to be closer to our children and grandchildren in Northern Virginia. Rose's doctors all were in Richmond, two hours away, and the house and property, while very comfortable, were becoming more and more challenging to maintain. Rose had slowly curtailed her volunteer activities with museum, church, and quilters. Joe had been on the County Electoral Board and an EMT with MidCounty Vol Rescue Squad where he had been Captain for four years. We both were tired; Joe was searching for a replacement on the Electoral Board and he had stopped running rescue calls because of his own health. On Labor Day 2024 while talking with a neighbor couple about our situation, they stated they wanted to buy our home as a place for her parents. We decided on terms of the sale and closed the sale in mid-May 2025. We started moving in late March 2025 and were moved by the first of May. We are now in a 2-BR, 2-bath apartment in Northern Virginia, about 10 minutes away from our son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons, and, about 30-40 minutes away from our daughter in DC. Photos of August 21, 2017 solar eclipseThe August 21, 2017 solar eclipse was clearly visible from our home in Northumberland County, VA. Here are three photos.
Photos of our grandchildren -- removedWe have two grandsons. As of September 2016, I have removed from this site all identifying data for them including photos. Sorry I have to do this as I'm really proud of them, however, there are too many sick weirdoes out there who prey on little kids. Finished and moved in -- July 2008!! Follow the progress as we build our new home in Virginia. UPDATE: As of March 2025, we sold
our home to our next-door neighbors; her parents are moving in. We moved
to a small 2-bedroom apartment in Northern Virginia. Over the past months
we have learned how to "downsize". The hardest part of moving was leaving
our friends and the volunteer work we did at church, quilting guild, museum,
rescue squad, county electoral board, county Democratic Party, and other great
organizations. June 1, 2025.
