NOTE: Joe Schlatter, the webmaster of this site, helped construct this
cabin in the summer of 1963. We cut the logs for the cabin from LeConte
with permission of the Park Service. One of the local fellows working at
the Lodge was Avery Trentham from Wear's Valley -- his father came up LeConte
and hewed every log by hand using an axe, broadaxe, and adze. All lumber
for the cabin was sawn at the Lodge using the sawmill that can be seen in John
Schlatter's photos. The
cedar shake shingles on the roof were purchased and we installed them.
