Hardwood floor installation -- page 2

 

After the hardwood flooring is laid and nailed to the subfloor, it must be sanded smooth.  Sanding is done with a big drum sander as shown in the photo below.  A belt of sandpaper rotates through the sander.  The sander has a self-contained vacuum cleaner that sucks up the dust raised by the sander.  The first pass with the sander uses a rough sandpaper, then, the floor is sanded again using a fine sandpaper.  These two photos show the flooring crew sanding the floor in the Great Room.


In the photo above:  on the left edge of the photo is the kitchen island with one of the three pendant lights hanging above it; note the fireplace in the back left; two of three ceiling fans.

 

In the photo above you can see the stone hearth around the fireplace; the openings to the right and left of the fireplace will hold bookcases.
