Building our
new home
on the
Virginia Northern Neck
-- The Lot --
We will build our new house on a lot between the towns of Heathsville and
Burgess, in Northumberland Country, Virginia, on the Potomac River. Our
lot looks across the Potomac to Lookout Point, Maryland, where the Potomac joins
the Chesapeake Bay.
Lot measures 135 feet wide by 24 feet deep. The lot is flat, no trees,
and is in a community of similar lots. There are about 20 homes in the
subdivision and almost as many empty lots. The subdivision was established
in 1989 and several people purchased these lots as investments. The
subdivision has our own water supply -- two wells that feed each lot.
Sewer is septic systems. In 1989, septic leach fields and drain lines were
installed on auxiliary lots about 400 feet behind the building lots. Water
and sewer lines were run to the rear corner of each lot.
We plan to break ground in mid-February 2008. We will build a 2,400
square foot house with a two-car garage.
Geographic coordinates are: 37 deg 57,709 min N, 076 deg 24.441
min W
Here are photos of the lot.

This photo was taken from across the street, back of the camera
toward the Potomac River, looking WSW. The large dark object is the
electrical transformer for the underground wires. Rose ( in pink coat ) is
walking toward where we will lay out the house and garage.

Similar to the photo above, showing more of the front of the lot
-- sign holding building permit and construction company sign and our truck.

This is what we will see from our front door -- looking between
and past neighbor's houses, toward the NE. The water is the Potomac River;
the Maryland shore and Point Lookout are on the horizon.
